What is a "Chicken Tractor"?
It is essentially a movable chicken pen/coop that allows you to place it in different locations on your yard. The chickens eat the bugs and grass, and fertilize your lawn.
The last few weeks I have spent my evenings building the chicken tractor. I made it almost entirely from materials I had laying around. Most of the lumber was old pallets. The pictures you see show temporary wheels that allow me to move it around while working on it.
I am planning on installing the final wheels soon.

Nesting Boxes
Coop access panels. Notice the pullout steel floor that will be very useful in pulling out and dumping the chicken crap. Also, notice the roosting poles I provided inside the coop. I decided to put some roosting poles outside as well. I have had these poles and hardware lying around since we built our house.
I provided a ramp for the chickens to get up into the coop
That thing in the front is the feeder...
Here's a better picture of it...
I tried some of those waterer nipples and they work great...
All I have left do is put the wheels on and put the thing in the yard so the chickens have more room.
Some early construction photos...
The Chicken Tractor
Another tractor
After getting some new chicks, I decided to build another chicken tractor. This one I simply took a socker/softball backing that I made for the kids years ago. It wasn't being used, so I found a new use for it. I tipped it on it's front and built a coop onto it. For the floor of the pen, I used a chain-linked dog kennel wall that I got for nothing....amazing what you can find in the free section of craigslist.
It works great.
